West central Indiana is primarily characterized by agriculture and proudly holds Indiana’s Wabash river and Erie Canal. Terre Haute is its main manufacturing and trade center. It is also home to Indiana State University, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Ivy Tech College, Indiana Business College, and Rose Hulman Institute of Technology. History also takes center stage in Terre Haute. The nineth president of the United States, William Henry Harrison, once resided in this area and General George Rodgers Clark helped establish the western boundary of the United States in 1779 by capturing Vincennes from the British. Whether you are residing in Terre Haute, the surrounding counties, or just visiting, the Wabash Valley is filled with exciting opportunities.
Parke County is the Covered Bridge Capital of the world. While visiting Parke County you will be transported to a quieter, simpler time. Walk through a majestic covered bridge, take in the breathtaking views, or sit by one of our historic mills. You will be amazed at all God has created here. Parke County is also home to many festivals filled with booths by local artist and of course it’s 32 covered bridges. It is a community where people are friendly and always willing to lend a hand to a neighbor.
